The PGP runs on an invitation model. IRCC opens an interest to sponsor form for a limited window, then selects potential sponsors from the pool, typically by random draw, and invites them to submit a complete application within a fixed deadline. In recent rounds IRCC has drawn from earlier submissions rather than opening a new form, so whether you can be invited may depend on whether you are already in that pool. We keep you informed on how each round is structured.
Once invited, the sponsor, with a co-signing spouse or common-law partner where needed, must show income at or above the Minimum Necessary Income for the three taxation years before the application, proved through CRA Notices of Assessment. The MNI is set by family size, which counts everyone you already support, everyone you are sponsoring and anyone still covered by a previous undertaking. The sponsor also signs a 20-year undertaking to support the sponsored relatives so they do not need social assistance.
If you are not invited, or your income falls short in one of the years, the Super Visa is often the practical alternative. It lets parents and grandparents visit for extended periods on a multiple-entry visa, and the income requirement is assessed differently. We help families decide which route, or which combination, suits them.
Who this is for
- Canadian citizens and permanent residents who want to sponsor a parent or grandparent for permanent residence
- Sponsors who need to confirm they meet the MNI for each required year before an invitation arrives
- Couples where a spouse or partner will co-sign to combine household income
- Families weighing the PGP against a Super Visa while they wait for an invitation
- Sponsors with a previous PGP refusal for income or documentation reasons
What we do
- Calculate your family size and the MNI you must meet for each of the three taxation years
- Review your CRA Notices of Assessment, identify any year that falls short and explain what can lawfully be done about it
- Submit or verify your interest to sponsor and monitor IRCC’s invitation rounds
- Prepare the complete sponsor and applicant packages within the deadline once you are invited
- Explain the 20-year undertaking, its obligations and how it interacts with prior sponsorships
- Prepare a Super Visa application as an alternative or a bridge where the PGP is not available
How it works
- 1
Income and eligibility check
We calculate your family size, confirm the MNI for each year and review your Notices of Assessment so you know where you stand before any invitation.
- 2
Interest to sponsor
We submit or confirm your interest to sponsor when IRCC opens the form, and track the invitation rounds on your behalf.
- 3
Application build
Once invited, we prepare the sponsor undertaking, the applicants’ permanent residence forms, income proof and relationship documents within IRCC’s deadline.
- 4
Filing and follow-up
We file the complete package, respond to requests for documents, medicals and biometrics, and keep you informed until your parents land.
